Sofia Björkman

I was born in 1970 in Stockholm, Sweden
Since 1999 owner of gallery Platina
MFA 1998 Konstfack, Stockholm

I believe in jewellery- gossiping jewellery that tells truths and untruths,
gorgeous jewellery that fascinates, annoys and tickles, without falses.
I make jewellery that is questioning the values and status.
I show jewellery that attracts others to think.
I am wearing jewellery that loads my batteries, and illustrate my thoughts.
I discuss jewellery that may seem strange to the viewer
and I sell jewellery stunned or strengthen people's feelings.
I think of jewellery as miniatures of life's content
and dream of jewellery that makes a hole in my wallet.

Time 2 - 2009

Objects obtain a different energy when taken from their context and put into another time and place. You can't revisit a place in order to experience it again. Then was the time and the place can never be the same. But the memory exists and the place may receive new meaning through subjective recreation, using completely different emotions and colours.
So it is with the pieces of jewelry in this collection. Their external form is the same as pieces in Time1 collection. Depending on time and changes in time, the approach to making, processing and manufacturing differs. Through techniques such as 3D-scanning/printing and the use of other materials, colours and scales, the character of each piece in this collection stands apart from the original pieces in silver.

Focus - 2009

Seeing the world through a magnifying glass changes your perspective. There is no objective view of the world. No one sees things as they are. Delusions and optical illusions build each person's conceptual world and shape the environment based on how we are in ourselves. All we see is our own reality.
To understand and get to know an object, I have to move it in order to observe it from another perspective. It has a different energy and changes character when taken out of context. If we zoom in, frame, cut out and focus, we discover things that we didn't see before, precisely because the surroundings blocked out the content.

The jewelry in the Focus collection consists of cut out pieces, taken from a larger context, small segments that tell us about the whole.

Through digital reconstruction, changing the scale and reworking materials, the objects become more distinct and they simultaneously tell other stories. They have gained new meaning through a subjective recreation, with personal qualities and totally different feelings and colors.
