Helena Sandström

Helena Sandström is a jewelry artist based in Stockholm. She trecieved her Master in Fine Arts from the Konstfack University
College of Arts, Craft and Design in 199. During her graduation she got great attention for her necklace of gold and eggshell which was
acquired for Nationalmuseum's collection in 1999. In addition to Nationalmuseum, she is also represented at Röhsska
Museet and Nordiska Museet. She has exhibited both in Sweden and abroad. 2015 she was in Odawara, Japan,
as artist-in-residence.

In the series Do you read me? we see tantalizing feathers and jewelry inspired by the shape of an old-fashioned megaphone in sheet metal. Helena Sandström says she deal with communication or the lack of it, born out of a personal experience of not being listened to, but it can also be transmitted on society at large. Everyone wants to be heard, to get their message through - but who is listening anyway? To watch a debate program is directly painful, I think. It's much about to overpower the other party, never to listen and try to see something from the perspective of others.
