Auli Laitinen är född 1967. 2000 tog hon sin Master of Fine Art på HDK, Högskolan för Design och Konsthantverk vid Göteborgs Universitet. Sedan dess driver hon egen verksamhet som konstnär, föreläsare och lärare. Hon har också medverkat i och initierat flera projekt inom konsthantverk och smyckekonst som ifrågasätter och problematiserar begrepp som skönhet, kön och etnicitet.

"När jag arbetar ställer jag frågor riktade till mig själv. Det är frågor som rör livet omkring mig och ofta svåra att besvara. Jag blir då via mitt arbete tvungen att tänka till och föra samtal för att försöka förstå. Jag tycker om tanken att smycken kan starta ett samtal och hjälpa bäraren/mig med detta.
Inspiration får jag av det som finns runt omkring mig, sådant som på något sätt ställer till problem för mig och som jag har behov av förhålla mig till på något sätt. Oftast har det med ämnen som skönhet, kön och ursprung eller någon slags tillhörighet att göra. Helst med ett visst mått av humor…"

Short resumé:
Auli Laitinen is born 1967. The year of 2000 she graduated with a Maters degree from the School of Design & Crafts at The University of Gothenburg. Since then she is working as an artist, lecturer and teacher. She has also participated and initiated several projects regarding issues of beauty and gender.

"When I work I pose questions to myself. It is questions that concerns my surrounding life and they are usually hard to answer. I then have to, through my work, think and conduct discussions/conversations in order to understand. I am very fond of the idea that jewellery can start a conversation and in doing so help the wearer/me with theese questions.
I get inspiration from my surroundings, from the things that somehow are problematic to me and that I have a need to understand. It often involves questions around gender, beauty and ethnicity or some kind of belonging. Preferably with a twist of humor…"

					Ut ur garderoben En kollektion om fint eller fult när det gäller smycken för kvinnor och män. Den vanliga uppfattningen i vårt samhälle är att kvinnor tillåter sig utsmyckningar som saknar någon annan funktion än just smyckandet i sig. Män gör det inte. Normen säger också att formens funktion står över formens estetik. Och att det manliga står över det kvinnliga är en sedan länge etablerad ordning. Auli Laitinen vill rucka på den manliga kopplingen till slipsen och dess roll som statusbärare. Med den här kollektionen har hon författat en berättelse om vad som kan gömma sig bakom ett till synes oskyldigt manligt attribut. Genom att förändra befintliga begrepp om smycken hoppas hon skapa förvirring kring vad som hör till det typiskt manliga och kvinnliga.
					Out of the closet It all started with some old ties, so colorful and decorative that I had to collect more and more of them. The more I collected the more I saw the jewelry aspect of the tie. What would happen if I accentuated that? kind of feminizing it? I wish for an uncertainty about who, men or women, should use these brooches. The fact that I let the male sex inspire the shapes and forms could be a pleasent change from all the parts of the female body that meets our eye in public space. The title of the series is simply saying that the tie has left the closet, showing itself as the jewellery it is. Se link till utställning/Link Exhibition

					Vår valda yta SV: I dessa smycken har jag bland annat använt klassiskt förskönande material som pärlor tillsammans med dagens oönskade kroppsbehåring. Jag har hoppats på en slags motbild till något som många av oss tycker är helt själklart att ta avstånd ifrån, trots att vi föds med det… With these pieces I have, for exemple, been using classical beautifying means as pearls together with the unwanted body hair of today. I wished to create some kind of counter image against something that many of us think is completely natural to feel repulsion with, though we are born with it…
