EXPLOSIVE:
FROZEN FIREWORKS
MIA
MALJOJOKI
11th
NOVEMBER - 4th DECEMBER 2010
In the
exhibition Explosive: Frozen Fireworks Mia Maljojoki works to freeze
the moments that cause us to explode.
Fireworks are temporary explosions to commemorate an event. Sound, lighting,
paint and smoke intermingled with wonder, excitement, nostalgia and
inspiration. Fireworks are used to heighten an already emotional or
significant occasion. In some cultures, fireworks and firecrackers are
used as a way to ward off evil spirits at the events like funerals,
weddings, inaugurations and the start of the festivities.
Jewellery
tells stories. It takes the form of medallions to commemorate events
or actions. Jewellery reminds of relationships with friends, family,
or spouses. In some cultures, they believe that Jewelry can be used
to heals wounds or offer protection.
Both Fireworks
and Jewellery can be beautiful. They can allow us to flee reality and
but at the same time, with full attendance, throw ourselves into the
spiritual realms of fantasies and emotions.
