Sometimes
- mirrors of a subconscious esthetic
New contemporary
jewellery exhibition by Lisa Walker from New Zeeland
Lisa Walker
has named her exhibition "Sometimes" as a reference to her way
of creating art with a multitude of objects and ideas at a time. The brooches
show a frozen moment of her process with a certain material and thought.
For Lisa Walker, her immediate surroundings is her inspiration, or as
she says "Everything is food for art". The exhibition, with
more than 50 objects, opens on the 15th of May at Gallery Platina, Stockholm.
A naive style
is present in "Sometimes". The colors cry out and materials
are mixed and blended in a surprising way - although this is a genre where
the mocking up of materials more or less has become a hallmark. But in
these objects there is an ongoing conversation - or negotiation - on the
established esthetic norm and what we on a subconscious level perceive
as beautiful. The bottom line is how humans look upon materials.
Lisa Walker
origins from New Zeeland were natural materials often are used to create
art together with a respect for this nature. Lisa Walker says this tradition
drives her mad and it is easy to see that in her choice of working elements
and composition.
- There are
other choices possible for those who use natural materials. You could
also be mean, dirty, ironic and challenging. There is other things to
express but consideration and respect, she says.
Lisa Walker
lives and works in Munich, Germany. Here she has been studying for the
well known professor Otto Kunzli at the Arts Academy, where she became
acknowledged as the best student in her class. During the years she has
been gathering awards and frequently participated in group exhibitions
as well as separate exhibitions. At Schmuck in Munich, she is now one
of the most well known participants. Often there is a reference to other
contemporary jewellery from the last 40 years in her work.
In connection
to the opening at Gallery Platina, Lisa Walker will also give a lecture
at Konstfack, The University College of Arts, Crafts and Design in Stockholm.
